ITAD — IT Asset Disposition
Secure, certified disposition of end-of-life IT equipment — protecting your data, your organization, and the environment from collection through final processing.
What is ITAD?
IT Asset Disposition Done Right
IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) is the business-oriented process of responsibly retiring and disposing of obsolete or unwanted IT equipment in a safe and environmentally responsible manner. As organizations upgrade their technology infrastructure, they are left with large quantities of end-of-life equipment that must be decommissioned properly to protect sensitive data and comply with environmental regulations.
At ZS Recycling, we provide comprehensive ITAD services that address every stage of the asset retirement lifecycle — from secure collection and certified data destruction to responsible recycling and documented reporting.
Data Security & Compliance
Improper disposal of IT equipment poses serious risks — from data breaches to environmental violations. End-of-life devices contain hard drives and storage media that may hold confidential business data, customer records, and proprietary information. Without proper data destruction, organizations risk financial penalties, reputational damage, and regulatory non-compliance.
ZS Recycling's certified ITAD process ensures your retired assets are handled responsibly from collection through final disposition, keeping your organization protected at every step.
Asset Recovery & Value Return
Many end-of-life IT assets still hold residual value. As part of our ITAD process, ZS Recycling assesses equipment for potential remarketing and refurbishment. Where viable, recovered assets are prepared for resale, extending their useful life and returning value to your organization while reducing the overall volume of material sent for recycling.
This approach supports a circular economy model and helps offset the cost of your IT refresh cycle.
Certified Data Destruction
For all data-bearing devices, ZS Recycling performs certified data destruction in compliance with NIST 800-88 standards. Our process covers hard drives, SSDs, mobile devices, and any other media that may contain sensitive information. Data is destroyed through a combination of degaussing, overwriting, and physical shredding as appropriate.
Certificates of Data Destruction are available upon request, providing your organization with documented proof that your data has been irretrievably destroyed.
Responsible Downstream Recycling
IT equipment that cannot be remarketed is responsibly recycled through our certified downstream network. Components are carefully sorted and processed to recover metals, plastics, and other materials which are returned to the manufacturing supply chain — keeping hazardous substances out of landfills and the environment.
ZS Recycling adheres to California DTSC regulations and CalRecycle requirements throughout the entire downstream process, ensuring full regulatory compliance for your organization.
Our Process
The ITAD Lifecycle
A secure, documented, end-to-end process designed to protect your data and maximize the value of your retired IT assets.
Secure Collection & Transport
We provide secure, scheduled pickup of your end-of-life IT equipment. Our team maintains full chain-of-custody documentation from the moment your assets leave your facility, using secure transport to protect against any risk of data exposure in transit.
Asset Inventory & Audit
Upon receipt, each asset is inventoried and audited. We document make, model, serial number, and condition for all equipment received. This creates a verified asset manifest that serves as the foundation of your disposition records and supports audit compliance.
Certified Data Destruction
All data-bearing media is processed using NIST 800-88 compliant data destruction methods. Hard drives, SSDs, and removable media are destroyed through degaussing, overwriting, or physical shredding depending on the media type and data sensitivity requirements.
Remarketing or Responsible Recycling
Assets with residual value are refurbished and remarketed, extending their lifecycle and returning value to your organization. Equipment that cannot be remarketed is responsibly recycled through our certified downstream network, ensuring zero-landfill outcomes wherever possible.
Documentation & Reporting
At the conclusion of every ITAD project, ZS Recycling provides complete disposition documentation including Certificates of Recycling and, where applicable, Certificates of Data Destruction. Our reporting gives your organization the evidence it needs for regulatory compliance, internal audits, and environmental reporting.
Ongoing Partnership
ZS Recycling offers flexible ongoing ITAD programs for organizations with recurring IT refresh cycles. Whether you need quarterly pickups, one-time data center decommissions, or an ongoing program, we work closely with your team to develop a schedule and process that fits your operational needs.
